Home/Advice/SkyVac Explained
A clear explanation of how the SkyVac professional vacuum system works, what it does better than traditional ladder methods, and its limitations.
SkyVac is a professional gutter cleaning system that uses a high-powered vacuum unit with telescopic carbon fibre poles to clear gutters from ground level. The operative stands at the base of the property, extends the pole to gutter height, and uses a vacuum head to extract leaves, moss, silt and debris from the gutter channel without placing a ladder against the building.
The system includes an integrated miniature camera that transmits live footage to a handheld screen, allowing the operative to see inside the gutter in real time and inspect condition as work progresses.
| Factor | SkyVac (ground-level) | Ladder-based |
|---|---|---|
| Risk to property | No ladder contact with fascias or roof tiles | Ladder contact can mark UPVC and damage tiles over time |
| Access | Works from ground level regardless of surface | Requires firm, level ground for safe positioning |
| Documentation | Camera footage and photos available | Operative's observation only |
| Completeness | Vacuum extracts debris including fine silt | Manual scooping may miss fine material |
| Speed | Faster on standard properties — no ladder repositioning | Ladder repositioning adds time |
The integrated camera serves a practical inspection function. During every clean it gives the operative a clear view of where debris is accumulating most heavily, the condition of gutter joints and bracket fixings, whether downpipes are clear, and any cracking or distortion in the gutter profile. This information is useful for scheduling future maintenance and identifying repairs before they become urgent.
We advise before starting if a property's gutters fall outside straightforward SkyVac operation.
The photographs produced from the camera system have practical value beyond confirmation of a clean. For homeowners, they provide a dated record of gutter condition. For landlords and property managers, they constitute evidence of maintenance and condition relevant to Section 11 obligations, deposit disputes and HHSRS assessments.
If a contractor you are comparing does not offer any form of photographic record, it is worth asking why. The absence of documentation is a relevant factor when choosing between quotes.
